Terms of service
These terms set out what you can expect from me and how I run my practice. I've kept the language as clear and straightforward as possible.
These terms apply to your use of this website and to therapy sessions with me, Claire Smith. By using this website or engaging in therapy with me, you agree to these terms.
If anything here is unclear, please get in touch and I will be happy to explain. You can reach me at help@counsellingwithclaire.uk.

I offer individual psychodynamic therapy for adults. All sessions take place in person at Manor Drive Medical Centre, Worcester Park, KT4 7LG. I do not offer online, telephone, or video sessions.
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), membership number 216379. My practice is bound by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
Therapy usually begins with an initial consultation. This is a chance for us to meet, talk about what has brought you to therapy, and decide together whether working with me feels right. There is no obligation to continue after this first meeting.
If we agree to work together, sessions take place weekly at the same time each week. Each session lasts 50 minutes. Regularity is an important part of the therapeutic process, and I ask clients to commit to attending at their agreed time wherever possible.
Sessions are £70 for 50 minutes. Payment is made in advance of each session. I will confirm the available payment methods when we arrange your sessions.
If cost is a concern, please speak to me. I may be able to offer some flexibility depending on circumstances.
I understand that things come up, and sometimes you may need to cancel or rearrange a session. I ask for at least 48 hours' notice for any cancellations or changes. Sessions cancelled with less notice, or missed appointments, are charged in full.
This policy exists because your session time is held exclusively for you each week. It also supports the continuity that makes therapy most effective.
If I need to cancel a session, I will give you as much notice as possible and offer an alternative time where I can.
Everything you share in our sessions is confidential. I will not share what we discuss with anyone without your consent.
There are rare exceptions to this, in line with the BACP Ethical Framework. These include situations where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, where I am required by law to share information, or where a court orders disclosure. Even in these circumstances, I would try to discuss it with you first wherever possible.
I attend regular clinical supervision, which is a professional requirement. In supervision, I may discuss my work in general terms, but your identity is always protected.
I am an accredited member of the BACP (membership number 216379). You can verify my registration on the BACP register.
Accredited membership means I have met the BACP's standards for training, supervised practice, and ongoing professional development. I am bound by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, which sets out the values, principles, and standards of conduct that guide my work.
I maintain regular clinical supervision and continue my professional development in line with BACP requirements.
If you are unhappy with any aspect of our work together, I would encourage you to raise it with me directly. I take feedback seriously and will do my best to address your concerns.
If you feel unable to discuss it with me, or if the matter is not resolved to your satisfaction, you have the right to contact the BACP directly. The BACP has a formal complaints process, and you can find details on the BACP professional conduct page.
